In an effort to create real-life, personal relationships with our customers, we've mainly focused on gaining customers in the states of Wisconsin and Illinois. However, we recently took a project on the west coast for Dolce Beada. Dolce Beada creates fine glass jewlery, and they were looking to replace the website they created in-house with a polished, professional website. With beautiful jewelry to work with, it's easy to make a great looking site.

This project included an e-commerce storefront that is open to the public, but also has the functionality to allow their retailers to place orders online.

Exterior Lighting Concepts

One of our latest projects comes from a low-voltage outdoor lighting company in East Troy, WI. Exterior Lighting Concepts markets to high-end homes in southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. They've built a successful business over the past several years, but found they were not getting results from their recent direct mail campaigns.

Perfect Bottles

One of the cool things about being in the web design business is meeting new people with interesting ideas. One came along this month in PerfectBottles.com. An entrepreneur from the Milwaukee area came to us in need of a site to promote her new product - a collapsible, reusable water bottle. At first glance it looks like a normal bottle, but it's made in a way that allows it to collapse down to pocket-size so you can take it with you.

One of our more extensive projects of late was a re-design for a Milwaukee Design/Build Remodeler - jdj builders. Their project involved many photo galleries and video project tours. We were happy to find they were open to the idea of the video tours, and actually had the idea in mind before coming to us for the website.

A new year, a new look

You probably noticed that today we rolled out a new design and logo for the company! Our previous design for the site was almost three years old, and I felt the overall look of the site was getting a little outdated.

We're think our fresh, new look will help furthur our recent success, and if January and February are any indication, 2008 looks to be by far the busiest and most profitable year ever!

Bartley Square - residential townhomes & retail center in Crystal Lake, IL

I've just finished another real estate development website, and this one is located in Crystal Lake, IL. I worked closely with the customer to develop just the right color scheme, and I think the site turned out beautifully. Their development includes residential townhomes and and a 12,000 sq ft Retail Center. It's a neat idea in that the residents and businesses form their own little community, and I'm sure townhome owners will enjoy the convenience of having businesses located within walking distance.

The development hasn't been built yet, but you can see pre-construction illustrations & floorplans on the site for now. There are plans to add video tours to the website this year after construction is completed.

Project Update: Wyntree Construction

Check out our new project, www.wyntreeconstruction.com. Since 1988, they have been building beautiful custom homes in Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. They are based in Lake Geneva, WI, and have some very unique projects that will amaze you!

Our role was a re-design using their existing graphics from an out-dated frames based web design to a more modern look that's friendlier to search engines.

The Baywalk - a new look for Williams Bay, WI

Being an (almost) lifetime resident of Williams Bay, WI, I fondly remember the days when I'd ride my bike past the Keg Room on my way to Edgewater Park. In that same building was a laundromat, another local pub, and a few small retail stores. About 10 years ago the building was the victim of a fire that demolished everything, and since then it's been an empty lot.

I'm happy to report that this summer a new condominium and retail building will be built in that spot, with a definite upscale look. The project is called The Baywalk, and will consist of 8 retail spaces and 8 condos. The building will give Williams Bay's downtown area a beautiful new look, and also provide some of the most desirable living and retail spaces in the Lake Geneva area and Southeast Wisconsin.

As someone who grew up in this community, I'm very happy to have contributed to the project by building the website, which can be seen at www.thebaywalk.com

The Lamp Magazine - a new art & music magazine focusing on Walworth County, WI

I'm excited to inform everyone that my lovely finance is starting a new bi-monthly magazine focusing on local artists and musicians. I of course built the website, and I'll also be writing a column for the magazine focusing on the tech side of art & music. With a distribution of 25,000, you'll be able to find copies of The Lamp pretty much everywhere in Walworth County.

Look for the first issue to be released this spring, and the initial build of the website can be seen at www.thelampmag.com.

Project Update: Delaney Street Mercantile

My latest completed project is a site for a Lake Geneva shop called Delaney Street Mercantile. Delaney Street Mercantile is located across from the public library, and features beautiful and unique home decor items. This project was a lot of fun for me in that the store owners were a great to work with, and I also got to test my photography might in taking all the pictures for the site. They weren't looking for an e-commerce storefront, so the photos were taken to display the look and feel of the store. Some of my favorites include the photo of the glass golf putters on the homepage, and a shot from behind an antique toy airplane that makes it appear as if you're flying through the store.

I encourage everyone to check out their website, and if you're in town, stop in the store and see some of their many ceramic flying pigs!

I'd like to start the blog writing about what I feel is the best tool on the Web today. Amazingly, very few people I meet know about it. The Firefox web browser, which is managed by the Mozilla Foundation, is an open-source (free) alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Statistics vary, but most sources today say it's used by 12-15% of Internet users. That may not seem like much, but consider that Firefox is only 3 years old, and there are now over a billion Internet users worldwide.

Main advantages:

Firefox is considered safer than Internet Explorer. Recent tests have shown that Internet Explorer has eight major security flaws to Firefox's four. Tests also shown that Mozilla is quicker than Microsoft to fix security flaws in it's browser.
You have over 2,000 add-ons to choose from, including extensions to enhance your Web experience, and themes to personalize the look of the program.

What I've realized in conversation with non-tech people is that even if they've heard of it, they don't think it's something they need, or think it's a complicated thing to get. So here is the process, plain and simple:

Go to www.mozilla.com, download, and install Firefox from the home page.
Browse through the themes, and find one you like. Here is a list of the most popular themes.
I don't expect you to sort through all of the extensions, but here is a list of the most popular, and don't be afraid to use the search box to see what else is out there. A few of my favorites are:

McAfee Siteadvisor - tells you whether the site you are visiting is dangerous or fraudulent, and even shows up in Google & Yahoo! search results. A MUST HAVE.
StumbleUpon - you tell StumbleUpon what you're interested in, and it takes you a to a random site based on your interest.
